Douglas Reclaim (Future Development)

Building Skills. Supporting Communities. Protecting the Environment.

Douglas Reclaim is a future social enterprise being developed by Douglas Skills Trust that brings together environmental sustainability, community benefit and practical skills development.

Our vision is to recover, reuse and repurpose surplus construction materials that would otherwise go to waste, reducing environmental impact while creating opportunities for education, training and employment.

By combining sustainability with social impact, Douglas Reclaim will help support local communities, improve access to affordable materials and provide meaningful learning opportunities for people developing practical skills.

Supporting a Circular Economy

The construction industry generates significant quantities of reusable materials that are often discarded despite remaining perfectly suitable for further use.

Douglas Reclaim aims to reduce unnecessary waste by:

  • Recovering reusable construction materials.

  • Promoting recycling and responsible resource management.

  • Supporting the circular economy.

  • Reducing landfill waste.

  • Encouraging sustainable construction practices.

  • Extending the life of valuable building materials.

By giving materials a second life, we can reduce environmental impact while creating lasting social value.

Supporting Local Communities

Douglas Reclaim is about more than reclaiming materials.

Where appropriate, reclaimed materials may be made available to support:

  • Schools and educational settings.

  • Community organisations.

  • Charities.

  • Community gardens.

  • Care homes.

  • Youth organisations.

  • Small community improvement projects.

  • Local environmental initiatives.

By supporting community-led projects, Douglas Reclaim aims to improve local environments while encouraging sustainability and community participation.

Creating Practical Learning Opportunities

Douglas Reclaim will also provide opportunities for individuals to gain practical workplace experience while developing valuable employability skills.

Future activities may include:

  • Material recovery and sorting.

  • Safe handling of reclaimed materials.

  • Property maintenance.

  • Basic refurbishment projects.

  • Environmental awareness.

  • Sustainable construction practices.

  • Teamworking and workplace skills.

  • Volunteering and work experience.

These practical experiences will help individuals build confidence while preparing them for future education, apprenticeships and employment.

Supporting Our Progression Pathway

Douglas Reclaim forms an important part of the wider Douglas Skills Trust progression model.

Participants may begin their journey through:

  • The Douglas Employment & Skills Hub.

  • Community Outreach Programmes.

  • Education & Skills Pathways.

  • Mentoring and wellbeing support.

As they develop, Douglas Reclaim will offer practical workplace experience before progressing into vocational training, work placements, apprenticeships and sustainable employment.

Supporting Environmental & Social Sustainability

Douglas Reclaim has been designed to deliver both environmental and social impact.

By reducing construction waste, encouraging reuse and supporting community projects, we aim to create measurable environmental benefits whilst improving opportunities for local people.

At the same time, any surplus income generated through Douglas Reclaim will be reinvested directly into Douglas Skills Trust, helping to expand our mentoring, employability, education and community programmes for the people who need them most.

Looking AHEAD

headDouglas Reclaim represents our commitment to creating a future where environmental responsibility, practical education and community development work hand in hand.

Through the recovery of valuable materials, support for community projects and the creation of practical learning opportunities, Douglas Reclaim will help build stronger communities, reduce environmental impact and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
