Mentoring

GUIDANCE, SUPPORT AND CONFIDENCE TO ACHIEVE MORE

At Douglas Skills Trust, we believe that the right support at the right time can transform an individual’s confidence, motivation and future opportunities.

Our mentoring approach provides personalised guidance for young people who may be facing barriers to education, training or employment.

Our mentors bring a combination of professional experience, lived experience and community understanding. They work alongside participants to help them identify their goals, overcome challenges and take positive steps towards education, employment and personal development.

Through trusted relationships, encouragement and practical support, our mentors help individuals build confidence, develop resilience and recognise their own potential.

WHAT MAKES OUR MENTORS DIFFERENT

Mentoring is at the heart of the Douglas Skills Trust approach.

For many individuals, barriers to progression are not only about skills or qualifications. Confidence, motivation, wellbeing and having someone to provide encouragement can make a significant difference.

A trusted mentor can help individuals:

  • Set realistic goals.

  • Build confidence and self-belief.

  • Develop employability skills.

  • Prepare for education, training or employment.

  • Stay motivated during periods of challenge.

  • Access wider support and opportunities.

Mentoring helps bridge the gap between potential and progress.

COMMUNITY DRIVEN SUPPORT

Our mentors are connected to the communities we serve and understand that every individual’s journey is different.

By understanding local challenges, personal circumstances and barriers to progression, our mentors provide support that is practical, relevant and personalised.

Through strong relationships with participants, education providers, employers and community partners, we aim to create a support network that helps people move forward.

OUR APPROACH

Mentoring within Douglas Skills Trust is designed to complement our wider support offer, including:

  • Employment & Skills Hub support.

  • Careers guidance.

  • Employability development.

  • Wellbeing support.

  • Skills training pathways.

  • Education and employer partnerships.

Together, these services help individuals develop the confidence, skills and support network needed to achieve sustainable progression.

A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.
